Placenames Workshop 2012


Theme: Management and dissemination of toponymic data online

Organised by: Fiontar, Dublin City University in collaboration with the Placenames Branch, Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Aims


The aim of this workshop is to create a forum to present work by researchers and industrial practitioners in the area of toponymy. It will also provide a platform on which to forge links and partnerships between international researchers and industry practitioners This willbe significant not only for current research projects but for investigation of future research opportunities.

The workshop will focus on three main areas:
1. Placenames research
2. Technical solutions for the management of toponymic data
3. Mapping solutions:
- Synchronisation of toponymic data between databases
- Bilingual/multilingual toponymic data

We are pleased to announce Helen Kerfoot from the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names as keynote speaker.
