The well which gave it origin was in the townland of Crovar and called *Tobar Shíle an Locha*. Sheela the daughter of the enchanter Mannanan was the name of the woman who neglected closing the door of the well. She walked from Crovar at the north of the lake to Granard where some person, seeing the the lough following her knock her on the head and killed her, upon which the waters flowed no further having followed her 6 ¾ miles Irish measure.
