The name of this Parish is in Irish Magh Laithimh, which signifies the Plain of Laithemh, a man’s name formerly common in Ireland, and still in use as a surname anglicised Lahiff.
No part of the old church of this Parish now remains but the East gable….This church is of considerable antiquity. About one hundred and fifty paces to the North East of the Church is part of an old castle situated on a high rocky eminence in a plain. According to tradition this Castle was built by the Mac Carthys. ... But it appears from the [so-called] Annals of Inishfallen ...
