1963	The fourteenth century genealogical poem called the Duan Catháin, which enumerates the families descended from the Cenél Laeghaire of west Cork, refers to a family named Ó Mearagáin. It has been suggested that this townland may have been originally Fearann Uí Mhearagáin. If such were the case we would expect the second part of this place-name to have an anglicised form like -yveragane or iveragene	JCHAS Leathanach: 68.106 Journal of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society
