Cuileanntrach leagan eile den ainm seo: féach 1415 Caslen na Culenntraigi Annála Connacht, 1514 ‘Caislen na Cuilentraighe do brisedhd’Iarla Cille Daraar Laíghiss hI Mordho’ in Annála Connacht agus faoin mbliain 1645 ‘go Caislen na Cuilentraoi’ in Cín Lae Uí Mhealláin. Tá tagairt ag Laurence (Maoleachlainn) Ó Broin, Gaeilgeoir léannta ón bhFailligh Bheag, do ‘the great holly that formerly grew in its woods, from which it was called Cuileneach Mhor’ in Litreacha na Suirbhéireachta Ordanáis II 265. Dhá fhocal coitianta is ea cuileanntrach agus cuileannach atá díorthaithe ó cuileann “holly”.
