[Ballybunnion]
In Ballybunnion Townland in this Parish are ruins of a Castle, situated on a point of land over the White Strand of Ballybunnion… It is stated in the Annals of the Four Masters at AD 1582, which year has been referred to above at Listowel, that Mac Mac Maurice “destroyed Leacsnamha, Lios-Tuathail, Biaille and Baile an Bhuindeanaigh.” The last is Ballybunnion of which we speak, and signifies the Town of Bunnion, a man’s name.
