Coill an Pháide Bheag
wood of?; Coill F[h]ada is incorrect in this instance. Note the following 17th century transliterations of this name, Kwylyfady (1613), Kilphadibeg, -more (1655c). The Ordnance Survey Namebook (1841) records the Irish form as, Coill a fáisig (or ..fáirig?), and provides anglicised forms such as Killafadda, Killifadibeg. P. Ó Siochfhradha recorded the Irish form Coill a' Pháide in 1955 and note also the local pronunciation recorded by the Placenames Branch in 1970. pronunciation dated 1970. Therefore Coill an Pháide would seem to adhere to the historical evidence as outlined above. The meaning of 'páide' is unclear.
