Cluain Maolain
In the Townland of Cluain Maolain, now anglicised Cloonmealaun, in this Parish, stood a Castle of the same name which is mentioned in the pedigree of the Mac Carthys as the Seat of Cormac, the son of Donogh Mac Carthy, the sixth in descent from Eogan of the border of the Mang, the first of the name who settled in the territory of Coshmang. It stood on the top of a small round hill like a moat in the centre of a fertile plain. Nothing now remains of it but about twenty feet of the North East corner….
