Baile Uí Chaolaighe is mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters at the year 1582 at which it is recorded that, “Neither the inhabitants of Baile Mic An Caim, nor of Baile Uí Chaolaighe, nor the sons of Pierse assisted him in these misdeeds”. And the Castle of Ballykeighly is mentioned in the same Annals at the year 1601 at which it is stated that “On this occasion Mac Maurice was permitted by O’Donnell to take on with him a portion of the army to see and visit Clanmaurice. As they passed along through the territory, they found some of it’s castles in danger, not well guarded, and took them; they were Leac Snámha, the Short Castle at Ardfert, and Ballykeighly”
