Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
white lea-field
Is luachmhar an tagairt í 1619 ‘Fyraghfin otherwise Whitelayes’ a thugann aistriú Béarla ar an logainm seo (féach fiarach “uncultivated grassland, lea” FGB; cf. Dinneen). Agus murar foirm iolra a bhí san ainm Gaeilge an uair úd chomh maith leis an mBéarla (m.sh. Fiaracha Fionna) díol spéise é an fuaimniú fionn /fʹin/ atá le tuiscint ann. Ní thaispeánann sé an fuaimniú a mbeifí ag súil leis sa chuid eile d’Osraí (m.sh. fionn : /fʹuːn/, LASID II) ná i dtuaisceart Thiobraid Árann (m.sh. bf An Cnoc Fionn > Knockfune (TÁ 27) (#46509)). Cf. 1631 ‘Knockfane’, 1655 ‘Knockfin’ faoi bf An Cnoc Fionn (#28058).
Tá samplaí de fiarach (uatha) i logainmneacha eile (m.sh. Ga, Lo, Lú, UF).
