Cúil Bhaile Uí Ógáin
the corner, nook of Baile Uí Ógáin?Tá samplaí den sloinne Hogan i bparóiste Mhainistir Laoise in Griffith’s Valuation. Is cosúil gur cúil “corner, nook” atá sa chéad eilimint ach níl cúl “back( hill)” le cur as an áireamh ach oiread; tá an áit seo suite taobh theas de chnoc 136m; cf. bf An Cúlbhaile (#27990) in Achadh Bhó. (Cf. freisin, b’fhéidir, an mionainm Coolasnathawn SO taobh thiar den chnoc céanna 136m sa bhaile fearainn teorannach bf Ceapach Laichnín nó Cluain Ard (#27918).) D’fhéadfadh sé gur don Baile Uí Ógáin “the town of Ó hÓgáin” céanna seo a thagraíonn na mionainmneacha Clashawolla SO 6ʺ, Clashawalla SO 25ʺ < Clais an Bhaile (?) “the trench of the town” agus Shanavolla SO < An Seanbhaile (?) “the old town” lastoir. Tabhair faoi deara an guta cúnta sa dara hainm díobh seo (cf. bf An Seanbharr (#28340).)
Cuid scartha de pharóiste Mhainistir Laoise é seo. Is minic a fhágtar smut de pharóiste amháin laistigh de pharóiste eile de bharr tranglam stairiúil riaracháin éigin san eaglais (e.g. bf Cill Rois (#27763)). Níl aon tagairt sna foinsí do theampall a bheith anseo, áfach, ná níl aon iarsma dá leithéid le fáil sa bhaile fearainn (www.archaeology.ie). Ní leor d’fhianaise í an fhoirm mhalartach áitiúil 1838 ‘Kyle-’.
Bostún — logainm aistrithe ó Shasana. Féach sampla eile in Uí Fhairchealláin (#27923).
