Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the wood of the castle

Tá an bunleagan Gaeilge le feiscint go soiléir sna tagairtí is luaithe, e.g. 1613 ‘Killecashlane’. Díol spéise an próiseas béarlaithe atá léirithe san fhianaise: rinneadh leathaistriúchán ar an logainm i dtosach báire, 1619 ‘… otherwise Castlekill’ (Castle-kill < coill), gur tháinig an fhoirm lánaistrithe chun cinn in 1633 ‘Castle[w]oode’.
