Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

the cattle-fold, summer pasture of Éamann
Éamann — ainm pearsanta (< Edmund na nAngla-Normannach)

    Ainmneacha stairiúla:

    1. Bán (?) nó Bábhún (?) Bhuaile Éamainn “the lea-field (?), the bawn, fortified enclosure (?) of Buaile Éamainn”, an leagan fada atá le sonrú i bhfoirmeacha 1655–1669 (cf. bf Babhún Eachra (#28758) sa pharóiste seo).
    2. Sceach Bhuaile Éamainn “the hawthorn, thorn-bush of Buaile Éamainn” atá léirithe in 1621 ‘Skeaghbuolemon’. Is é an litriú seo 1621 ‘buole-’ chomh maith le 1659 ‘bole-’ a thugann orainn buaile a mholadh anseo seachas baile.
