Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the bog(land) of the scrapers, scrapings?
Féach Dinneen s.v. scríobán agus cf. www.dil.ie s.v. scríbán “currycomb, scraper”. Tá an baile fearainn seo suite ar theorainn an chontae agus d’fhéadfaí scríob “boundary (mark)” a chur san áireamh dá bharr (féach www.dil.ie s.v. scríb (b)).
Cf. an mionainm 1576 ‘Cappescribedor’, 1632 ‘Cappiscribedore’, ‘Kappescreebedore’ < Ceapaigh an Scríobadóra (?) “the tillage-plot of the thrifty husbandman” faoi bf An Ráth Dhubh (#28883) i Sliabh Mairge (cf. Dinneen s.v. scríobáil).
Is anseo atá Kilmaleed Grave Yard (Disused) SO (féach par Baile Adaim (#1420)).
