Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
glen of —
Ní léir bunús an dara heilimint. B’fhéidir go bhfuil cuid den cheart ag Ó Donnabháin in 1838 ‘Gleann all’. Sa Nua-Ghaeilge bíonn an focal aill “cliff” baininscneach i gcónaí, ach bhíodh idir bhaininscne agus fhirinsnce le all sa tSean-Ghaeilge (www.dil.ie s.v. 1 all). Tá fána ghéar ar dhá thaobh an ghleanna; féach leis go bhfuil talamh charraigeach ar an taobh thiar de (‘Bedrock at surface’, www.epa.ie).
Measaimid gur chóir cloí leis an réiteach fuaime Gleann Ál anseo. D’fhéadfadh an bhrí ‘glen of litters, broods’ a bheith leis (féach FGB s.v. ál).
Tá an baile fearainn seo suite idir bf Gleann na Móna (#28278) agus bf Gleann Cit (#28280).
