Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the town of the artisan
Buafhocal is ea ceard anseo, is cosúil. Is é an t-aon duine amháin é 1602 ‘Donell Kearde’ < Dónall Ceard “Dónall the artisan” agus 1601 ‘Donell Mc Gillpatrick’ < Dónall Mac Giolla Phádraig de réir dealraimh. Cf. 1570 ‘John Kerde’ sna Fiants, ó cheantar Phort Laoise, agus féach an logainm stairiúil ‘Ballynecard al’ Garrincarde’, i mbarúntacht Shliabh Mairge, sna hIonchoisní.
Tá an baile fearainn seo suite cois Abhainn an Chillín; b’fhéidir nár cheart béal a chur as an áireamh ar fad sa chéad eilimint (1601 ‘Bealkerdy’).
