Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the wood of Díoma?
Díoma — ainm pearsanta ar foirm cheana é de Diarmaid

Cf. ‘Diarmuid of … Gleann Uisean … alias Modhíomóg’ in Ó Riain, Dictionary of Irish Saints 264 (< Mo + Díoma + -óg).

Is cosúil nach bhfuil aon bhaint ag an logainm seo le hainm an bhaile fearainn bf (Páirc) Ioma (#28462) béal dorais. Tá g- le sonrú i gcúpla foinse éagsúla ar dócha gur túschonsan an cháilitheora atá ann. Cf. na foirmeacha béarlaithe 1302 ‘Tylaghmodyme’, 1571 ‘Tullmegymaghe’, 1839 ‘Tullowmagimma’ faoi par Tulach Modhíoma (#349) i dtuaisceart Cheatharlach.
