Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the church of Muire
    Muire — ainm pearsanta

    Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
Ar cn Carraig Fhinn (#1417882) i ndeisceart an bhaile fearainn léirítear Class Alick’s Well SO 6ʺ, Clash Alick’s Well SO 25ʺ < Glaise na Lice (?) “the stream of the flag(stone)”. Féach go bhfuil lomán carraige díreach lastoir ó dheas den tobar. Cf. glaise “stream” mar ainm tobair eile in 1608 ‘a well, in which young ash trees grow, called Glassenefonsocke’ < Glaise na bhFuinseog “the stream of the ash-trees” faoi bf Baile an Locha (#28297) thiar.

    Ainmneacha stairiúla:
D’fhéadfadh sé go bhfuil gaol ag ainm an tobair seo Class Alick’s Well SO 6ʺ le 1608 ‘Lackenebrocke’ < Leac na mBroc (?) “the flag(stone) of the badgers”, mionainm ar an gcnoc a luaitear sa chur síos ar ghabháltas Phiogóideach an Dísirt (shín a thailte siúd aniar isteach beagán sa talamh ard anseo ó bharúntacht Phort Laoise Thoir; féach CPR 113).
