Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the town of Ó Duibh
    Ó Duibh — sloinne

Is cosúil gurb é an baile fearainn seo atá i gceist le 1282 ‘the vill of Oduf’, ‘Oduf’s town’ sa chur síos ar mhainéar Dhún Másc (CDI II 466 = Inq. PM 2 II 286). Cf. bf Baile Uí Dhuibh (#28152), par. Chorrchluana. Bhí baint láidir ag an sloinne Ó Duibh leis an gceantar seo (cf. 1400c ‘Ó Duibh for Cheinél cCriomhthuinn’ ag Ó hUidhrín).

    Ainmneacha stairiúla:
Béal Átha (h)Eanaigh “the ford-approach of (the) marsh”, is cosúil, an logainm eile atá le feiscint san fhianaise (cf. par Maigh Eanaigh (#1449)).
