Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
black pasture?
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
- Tá an baile fearainn seo suite ar bhruach thuaidh an locha darb ainm 1583 ‘Loughduy’, 1607 ‘Loughduffe’, 1607 ‘the Iland of Loghduffe’, 1607/8 ‘Insulam de Loughduffe … oilean locha duibh’, 1841 Lough Duff SO < Loch Dubh (?) “black lake” (tá an t-oileán le feiscint ar SO 6″). D’fhéadfaí an t-ainm pearsanta Dubh a chur san áireamh freisin sa dá logainm, i.e., Cluain Duibh “the pasture of Dubh” agus Loch Duibh “the lake of Dubh” (cf. par Eanach Duibh (#1473) i Liatroim).
- Díol spéise litriú 1838 ‘Crucanure’ san Ainmleabhar ar an mionainm Knockanure SO < Cnoc an Iúir “the hill of the yew-tree” i lár an bhaile fearainn. Tá samplaí eile againn de cn- > /kr/ i ndeisceart an chontae freisin (m.sh. 1905 ‘Cruckawna-yoozh’ < Cnocán an Iúir “the hillock of the yew-tree” in bf Cill na Saor (#28057) i gClár Maí Locha in Osraí).
Ainmneacha stairiúla:
Ní léir suíomh beacht don logainm stairiúil 1607 ‘Cappanskibboll’ < Ceapach an Sciobóil “the tillage-plot of the barn”, LS Uí Dhuinn 23.
