Glossary

English height; high
mullach, mullaigh
English hilltop
English little oak-wood

Explanatory note

  • Gaeilge

    the summit of the height
    little (oak-)wood

Ní léir cad dó a thagraíonn an chéad ainm Mullach an Aird — is ar éigean má tá aon talamh ard le fáil sa bhaile fearainn beag seo (cf. bf An tSraith Ard (#28454) i bPort na hInse). Doirín “little (oak-)wood” an t-ainm a bhí ar an áit seo go stairiúil, foirm ghiorraithe de Doirín na Cásca (?) “the little (oak-)wood of Easter”, b’fhéidir (féach iontrálacha 1627, 1629).
