Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the point, headland
Is dócha gur fuaimniú Gaeilge cosúil le /~rˠi(ː)ɴʹ/ atá á chur in iúl i litriú an 17ú haois, m.sh. 1607 ‘the Rine’, seachas défhoghar. Tá easpa -ng sna foirmeacha béarlaithe ag teacht le samplaí eile de -nn caol sa bharúntacht seo (féach an nóta faoi bf Sraith Chuilinn (#28681)).
D’fhéadfaí roinn “(land)division” a chur san áireamh, go háirithe ó tharla nach bhfuil an t-ardán maol sa talamh anseo róshuntasach in aon chor. Is minic *Royn, *Rune, srl., mar bhéarlú ar an bhfocal sin i logainmneacha áfach.
