Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the hill of Saighir
Bhí baint ag an láthair eaglasta seo (Church (Site of), Grave Yard, SO) le Ciarán, éarlamh Osraí, a bhí luaite freisin le Saighir (Chiaráin) in Éile Uí Chearúill (iardheisceart Chontae Uíbh Fhailí an lae inniu). Is ón tSaighir Chiaráin úd a fuair an áit seo a hainm de réir cosúlachta. Féach an tagairt Ghaeilge 1565 ‘Saighir Bheag’ (“little Saighir”) sa Leabhar Branach — is dócha gurb í an áit seo atá i gceist.
Féach, de bhreis ar an SO, nótaí leis an gCorragánach (History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Ossory II 129–30) agus na hiontrálacha san Fhardal Seandálaíochta (‘ancient altar’, ‘ecclesiastical enclosure’, ‘holy tree/bush’, ‘penal mass station’, www.archaeology.ie).
Cf. bf Saighir/Churchland (UF 36, 39) (#41543) agus par Saighir Chiaráin (#2042) i gCo. Uíbh Fhailí.
Ní léir brí Saighir. Díol spéise réadú saighre mar 1838 ‘-seera’, 2004 /siːrə/.
