"Pinkman: Achadh-liag, nó Achadh-líge = Field of the stone. Liag is used to denote a large stone, a boulder, a pillar-stone. Compare Achadh-Liag, Achadh-leaga. Four Masters, Vol. 1, p.374. 1 771 “Achadh-liag: i.e.the Field of Stones. Dr. 1O’Conor says in the Annals of Ulster (AD 774), that this is Athleague in Connaught, but that cannot be true, because Athleague is called in Irish, Ath-Liag, i.e. Ford of the Stones. The Achadh-Liag referred to in the text is probablyt he place now called Achadh-leaga, situated on the east side of the River Suck, in the barony of Athlone, and county of Roscommon…” (ARÉ, I, 371,2). "
