Pinkman: "Coll-Choill = Hazel wood. Colehill and Callowhill are common townland names. The usual Irish form is Coll-Choill. The Down Survey gives Callaghell and Cullahell for this name in Leitrim. Cawlohie, Fiant 5439, Elizabeth. The hazel tree was held in much high esteem among the early Irish. It is said that Mac Cuill, son of the hazel – one of the three last Kings of the Tuatha de Dananns – was so called because he worshipped the hazel."
