"Pinkman: Cill-Aithnín = Church of the Virgin St. Aithin or Anthin. Compare Hogan, Onomasticon, pages 174, 175. This is O’Donovan’s interpretation of the name, though I could not discover any local tradition about this Virgin Saint, or of any church connected with her. Killaneen lies about 2 mile south west of Ballinamore and along St. John’s lake. "
