[Cherry Island]
"Cherry Island in Garadise Lough belongs to Lord Leitrim. This island was the retreat of a united Irishman called Miles O'Reilly or otherwise Miles the Slasher. He lived by day in the island being surrounded by a wall 10 feet high fitted out by port holes. At night he, it is said, left the island by a subterraneous passage to the land to pursue his nocturnal duties at length. He was taken by his pursuers by means of firing a bullet through his head in the townland of Clooncorrick."
