Loch-Fionnmhaighe, on the engraved map from the Down Survey, and this island, which is on the east side of the lake, is shown, by a mistake of the engraver, under the name, ‘Madark’, for Inisnadork. This island is now called Cherry Island. It contains the ruins of an old castle, in which the United Irishmen took shelter in 1798. "

"Cherry Island in Garadise Lough belongs to Lord Leitrim. This island was the retreat of a united Irishman called Miles O'Reilly or otherwise Miles the Slasher.
