"Arch. Inventory Derrintober/Lough Allen Crannógs (site, possible). In the 1930s when an ESB sluice was inserted into the Shannon at the point where it leaves Lough Allen, about 10 neat circular or oval mounds of stone came to light. There was also what may have been a stone-paved roadway running parallel with the shore. Bronze weapons and a dugout canoe were reported found. They have been seen when the water is low but are not visible at present (45). "
