"Pinkman: Druim-Fhada = Long ridge or hill. Druim, drom, like the Latin dorsum, means a back. In place-names it is applied to a long low ridge or hill. It is one of the commonest of root words in Irish names; it begins about 2400 and enters into a vast number of others. Leitrim has been called the county of little hills and we may expect to find this word figuring often in its place-names. I think it does occur often than any other. Druim is now used as a masculine noun, and the aspiration in this name, as in a number of others, may be due to local usage, or it may be a remnant of the old neuter eclipsis, or what was equivalent to an eclipsis.
