"Pinkman: Luach-Ros = The point of hire or reward. This name is not loch and rosl the pronunciation, to-day even, makes that plain. Compare Loughros in Donegal, which the Four Masters write Luach-Ros. See AD 1540 and note under AD 1200. Dr. Joyce conjectures that the name arose from the fact that some tenent in former days held it free of direct rent, as a reward for some signal service or on condition that he would fulfil certain duties.
