"Pinkman: Ruball = a tail “The word in common use in Connaugh is rubhall.” (O’Donovan, Supplement O’Reilly). Earball or ruball – air, ar, ‘on’, and ball, ‘a member’ – ‘the member added on’ – means a tail, but, by extension, the term is applied to the extremity of any natural feature, such as a long low hill or any strip of land, which was either the extremity of a larger portion, or which was thought to bear a rough resemblance to the tail of an animal.
