"Pinkman: Ceallacha (Ceallachaigh) = Church lands. Both O’Donovan and Joyce interpret this name from ‘Ceall’ a church. Calloughs is about one mile north west of Carrigallen. If the interpretation be correct, it very probably means that the place was attached to the ancient church at Carrigallen, which, according to tradition, was founded at a very early period. "
