"Pinkman: Drumar-Chian = Cian’s or Kean’s ridge. The Down Survey has Drumerkeyann and Drumerkean. The letter ‘r’ – preceded by a vowel sound if necessary – is often added to a noun to give a collective or cumulative sense. For example, clochar, a stony place from cloch a stone. But sometimes, too, the letter is added on without much significance. (Compare, Joyce, Place-names, Vol. II, page 12). "

"MacLysaght, IF: “The form MacKeenan appears in the census of 1659 as numerous in Leitrim and elsewhere, but the prefix Mac is now quite obsolete and may be due to a mistake on the part of the 17th century non-Irish officials who were often confused between O and Mac. It is always O in the native Irish annals” (194). "

"MacLysaght, MIF: “In county Leitrim Kenny has to some extent absorbed the local name Keeney. This, spelt also Keeny, Keany, Keaney, is fairly numerous in Co. Leitrim and south-west Donegal. Woulfe gives the Irish from of Keany as Ó Cianaigh or perhaps more correctly Ó Caoinnigh…” "
