"Pinkman: Coill-Mhic-Shearbhaill = Mac Sherwell’s wood. Kilmacsherwell townland lies north of Castlefore Lough, Parish of Fenagh. Mullaghnabreaghaun hill, 361 feet high, is in the middle of this townland."

"Arch. Inventory Fortified house (site). In pasture on a slight rise in an undulating landscape. Built by Col. Coote in the 17th century. It was destroyed in the 1641 rebellion. Described as of an irregular shape with three walls surviving and having three corner-towers with gun-loops. It is not visible at ground level, apart from two parallel banks placed 7m apart which may be the remains of a roadway (213-4)."
