"Pinkman: Druim-gamhnach = Ridge of the stippers or milking cows. Gamhnach, a stripper; a cow, not in calf, that yields milk. There are four Drumgownagh townlands in this County. O’Donovan glosses the name with the Latin, dorsum lactiferentium, and adds on the spelling of the English name “retain the ‘agh’”. This points to the Irish gamhnach and not gamhain."
