"Arch. Inventory: Agintass/Antfield. Cairn (site). On top of a hill, the site is now occupied by a water tower. Marked as ‘Monument’ on the 1st ed. of the OS 6-inch map and described as a small cairn thought to have been erected over the bodies of soldiers slain in 1689, according to a 19th century manuscript. Described as a small mound with bushes and locally thought to be about 300 years old (14). "

"Pinkman: Mothar-na-Seangán = The ‘moher’ or tree cluster of the ants. “I beg to direct your attention to the name Antfield which is a modern translation of Mohernashingan.” (O Donovan, Letters in Co. Leitrim). The word, mothar, is often applied to the ruins or a ‘caher’ or ‘rath,’ and sometimes to the ruin of any building, but its usual meaning is a cluster of trees or bushes. Seangán, an ant, a pissmore, and, figuratively, a worthless weak fellow. In this townland there is a well called Tobar-Mothair-na-Seangán, but it was formerly called Tobar-Comain-Ea, the well of Cumain Ea [féach thíos]. "
