"Pinkman: Lios-(a)-Gharbháin (nó liosach-Gharbháin) = Garvan’s fort O’Donovan notes that this was one local interpretation of the name and an old one. The Down Survey writes the name Lissegirevane and Lisergervan, and these appear to point to the correctness of the old interpretation. The word lios is sometimes lengthened to liosach without much apparent reason. Compare Lissaghmore in Co. Derry and Lissaghanedan in Co. Longford. Others interpret the name as Liosach-Geárr-Mhuine, fort of the short thicket or shrubbery. This sounds very like the pronunciation to-day, but I do not think it is safe to build too much on that. On the whole Liosach-Gharbháin is the more probable."
