sonnach < sonn, 'stake'. Cluain Sonnaigh Thiar / Cloonshinnagh and Cluain Sonnaigh Thoir / Cloonsunna were once a single unit, a fact that went unnoticed by the Ordnance Survey when they were settling the spelling of the anglicized names in 1838
