the corner, nook of the seizure/hillock?
The word teallach has several meanings — 'fireplace; family'; tealach is also a variant form of tulach, 'hillock'.
The original form of the name seen in entries 1579–1618 is probably Cúil Teallach na nGearrán, ‘the corner, nook of the seizure/hillock(?) of the geldings’.
Cf. the name of the adjacent townland Cúil an Ghearráin Rua/Coolagarranroe, par. Templetenny.
