Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the hill of the soul?
Is cosúil gur bréagaistriúchán ar an ainm Gaeilge atá san ainm Béarla Darlinghill (cf. an nath muirneach 'm'anam thú'.)
Dhealródh sé gur aistríodh an t-ainm Béarla sin go Gaeilge ar ais mar ** ***Cnoc Aoibhinn, bunús ainm an tí mhóir agus ina dhiaidh sin an ainm oifigiúil Bhéarla (1840 'Knockeevan'). - English
the hill of the soul?
The English name Darlinghill appears to be a pseudotranslation of the Irish name (cf. the term of endearment m'anam thú)
It seems that that name was then translated back into Irish as ** ***Cnoc Aoibhinn, the basis of the name of the big house and subsequently the official English name of the townland (1840 'Knockeevan').
