[Bannow] "…the ruins of an old church and a graveyard still remain." "…the site of Bannow town which is now covered with sand. There is at present stones raising out of the sand which is thought to be part of the walls of the houses and it is thought that a great part of the town has been carried away by the sea. The town is supposed to have been destroyed by an earthquake, but the date or certainty of it is not known by any of the inhabitants. It is said that the channel formerly ran between Bannow Island and Bannow, but is now stopped up by a gravel bank and the channel changed to the opposite side of the Island..."
