“Situated in the South side of the Townland of Knockreer, and to the South of Prospect House in this Parish is Cloghmacúda (Cloch Mochúda) literally, the Stone of S. Mochuda, which is thus described in Name Book No. 2 of the Parish p. 18. This is a small rock with a level surface three feet in diameter, in which are two round basins about 8 inches diameter and five deep, and which are never empty of water. Those are said to be the impressions of the Saint’s knees. See the name book for the story connected with the stone. This place is frequented and Stations are still performed at it. Saint Mochuda was a bishop of Lismore and previously Abbot of Rahen near Tullamore, from which latter place he was expelled. His festival was celebrated on the 14th of May. See Irish Calendar.”
