the (religious) house of Colma?
Colma — ainm pearsanta baineann?Tá an cáilitheoir an-éiginnte anseo. In ainneoin cuma thrédhearcach a bheith ar fhoirmeacha déanacha 1838 ‘Tig Colaim’ (litriú Gaeilge i bpeann luaidhe san Ainmleabhar) agus 1838 ‘Tee Columb’ ní rachadh * Tigh Choilm “the house of Colm” leis an gcuid is mó den fhianaise stairiúil. Réitíonn an fhoirm Ghaeilge 1560c ‘Teagh Calma’ go maith le foirmeacha béarlaithe de chuid an 16ú haois ar nós 1549 ‘Tiecalme’, 1552 ‘Tecalme’, 1607 ‘Tecalma’. Níl aon naomh darb ainm * Calma sna ginealaigh ach féach gurbh ann, is cosúil, do bhan-naomh Ultach darb ainm Colma: ‘Tri ingena Comgaill .i. Boga & Lasre et Colma’ CGSH 151. Ní nach ionadh go ndearnadh Colmán na Nuachabhála (#28230) a cheangal leis an áit seo i mbéaloideas na háite — díol spéise gur mhac é siúd le Comhall (< Comhghall) eile: 1100c ‘Senach & Colman da mc Comgaill’ sa Leabhar Laighneach (Leabhar na Nuachabhála). Cf. 1660 ‘Killcollmay’ sa BSD = bf Cill Cholma (Ga) (#19134).
Ainmneacha eile:
Ba é ‘Teampull’ an t-ainm áitiúil ar fhothracha an teampaill pharóiste anseo, de réir Comerford. Cf. 1896 ‘Thomple-nay-galish’ < An Eaglais (#27810) agus Templeshankyle SO < (An t)Seanchill (#27751).
