In the Townland of Rathoneen in the West of this Parish are the ruins of a square castle. Only a small part of it remains, but it can be ascertained that it was thirty feet from East to West and twenty six feet ten inches from North to South. It’s East side is destroyed to the ground and huge masses of the work tumbled down the hill on which it stood (stands). The highest part of it now standing is about twenty eight feet. It is said to have been destroyed by Cromwell.
