"Pinkman: Srath-na-gCros = River holm of the crosses “A place where crosses were,” an old local explanation. Crosses were erected for various reasons – not only in connection with churches an religious houses, but, also, to marke places, where any providential visitation took place. Adamnan in his Life of St. Columba tells how the Saint on one occasion set out to meet his uncle, Ernan, an old man who was coming t visit him. Before they could meet, the old man suddenly fell down and expired. On the spot where he died a cross was ereced. “And to this day” adds Adamnan, “that cross stands there.” "
