"Pinkman: Loch-a’-Phónta = Lake of the cattle pound. There was formerly a pound for cattle in this place and hence the name. Pónta, (al.póna, bóna), a place in which cattle were impounded for debt, for trespass or for other reasons. The owner of a pound usually received substantial compensation for his trouble and for his care of the animals. And consequently to be allowed to keep a pound was once considered a valuable privilege. "
