the ridge of the boundary, end, extremity?
This land ridge is situated on the boundary between two parishes (although the boundary of the modern townland itself does not quite extend as far as the border). Cf. the minor name Carraig an Earra, in the townland of Carrigrohane, outside Cork City.
See Ó Duinnín, 'tail, end, boundary' s.v. earr. See also www.dil.ie s.v. err (masculine) and Irish Grammatical Tracts decl. §39 (feminine).
