Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the new town
Tabhair faoi deara an iontráil 1655 ‘Ballynoe als Newtowne’; ní i ngach cás a thagann réadú ar leaganacha Gaeilge anuas chugainn dá leithéid de logainmneacha. Cf. bbf An Seanbhaile/Oldtown (#27884) agus An Seanbhaile Thiar/Shanbally (#27889) in iarthar an pharóiste. Cf. bf An Baile Nua (#27832).
Ainmneacha stairiúla:
Bhí logainm eile in úsáid anseo tráth .i. An Chathair “the stone ring-fort”, mar atá le sonrú ar na foirmeacha stairiúla 1655 ‘Caher’ DS, 1660c ‘Cagher’ BSD (La). Tabhair faoi deara an fuaimniú 1905 ‘Caar’ (History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Ossory II 228–9) a thaispeánann cailliúint -th- leathan idir ghutaí gairide (agus fadú cúitimh) sa logainm seo.Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
‘Kyleadhizzha’ an fuaimniú a bhailigh Ó Corragáin ar Kileaderry Nunnery SO 6ʺ < Cill an Doire “the church of the (oak-)wood”. Sampla é seo de cill á fhuaimniú le défhoghar (~/əi/), chomh maith leis an r-caol /ʒ/ a bhí ina shaintréith de chanúint Ghaeilge Osraí.
