Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the corner, nook of the bend?
‘Lúb i sruthán’ is mó a thuigtear le bac i logainmneacha ach níl a leithéid le sonrú anseo; féach áfach gur suntasach an cruth cuartha atá ar an eiscir (c. 100m) i ndeisceart an bhaile fearainn (cf. bf An Eiscir (#28112) taobh leis).
Mionainmneacha ar an léarscáil:
- Tá lochán bídeach darb ainm Pollbauteogue SO < Poll Báiteoige “hole of An Bháiteog (river)” ar theorainn thuaidh an bhaile fearainn cois na Báiteoige (cf. bf An Bháiteog (#28247) níos sia ó thuaidh).
- Tugtar Brockna SO 6ʺ, Brocknagh SO 25ʺ ar an gcnoc 126m in iarthar an bhaile fearainn (< An Bhrocnaigh (?) “the place of badgers”; cf. bf An Bhrocraigh (#28310), bf An Bhrocach (#28036); bf An Bhroicneach (#26838) (CC 20)). Cairéal atá ann anois.
