Explanatory note
- Gaeilge
the approach to the ford
Tá foirmeacha béarlaithe an 17ú haois trédhearcach go leor. Tabhair faoi deara an fhorbairt ó 1666 ‘Bealanahoy’ go 1838 ‘Ballina’. Ní fios cé acu ar tharla sé seo sa Ghaeilge de bharr chailliúint -th- /h/ láir sa chanúint (rud nach mbeifí ag súil leis i ndiaidh guta fada; cf. bf Bóthar na hOchtaí (#27815)) nó ar tharla de bharr an phróisis bhéarlaithe.
B’fhéidir gurb é áit a bhí i gceist ó cheart an áit a dtéann Cardtown Bridge SO trasna Abhainn an Chillín, i dtuaisceart bf An Cillín de réir teorainneacha an lae inniu. (Féach leis History and Antiquities of the Diocese of Ossory II 151.)
